Little Stories

Hi everyone,

During my time here at the New School, we have had to engage with numerous innovative and experimental concepts while doing our assignments and projects. Today, I wanted to share with you one such series of photographs that I did for my Media Design class. When it comes to street photography, photographing close ups of faces of people on the streets with snippets of their stories has become a huge trend now (Especially with the huge success of Humans of New York). I decided to take a twist on that concept and as a series photographed the mundanity of everyday life through hands. Even though all these photographs were taken within a few hours in one day at one location, I thought it was interesting to weave out a story of intersecting narratives and themes just by focusing on one body part: the hand.

Empties 2016: Skincare

Hey guys!

I have been collecting some of my skincare products that I used up completely for a while now. (A few months to be honest) I thought it would make for a good #Empties post. For all those who don’t know the concept of this post- it’s basically a list of products that I have used up completely in the recent past along with my opinion of whether I would buy the product again or not. So without talking too much, here are my recent Empties (in no particular order)

1. Kronokare Caribbean Ginger Body Lotion

I was gifted this product by the Kronokare PR team and decided to give it a shot. This body lotion is one of the most moisturizing creams I have ever used. It’s definitely not thick like a body butter but does the job, especially during the summer. It doesn’t contain any parabens and is SLS free, which is amazing! It does have a fairly strong ginger fragrance that I love but it’s understandable for the smell to not be appealing to everyone. Will I buy this again? : I am not too sure! It’s a good product but there are just so many amazing body lotions in the market that I wouldnt pick this one up specifically! Available here.

2. OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco

This product was also a PR gift and I am absolutely obsessed with it. Sadly, I can’t find it anywhere in India (though it’s available on I used this oil as a serum on damp hair, after washing my hair. It’s absolutely amazing to nourish thin brittle and damaged hair. Once you wash your hair, apply this on the lengths of the hair and then dry it, the hair is so soft and smooth and it’s almost unbelievable. I highly recommend this product especially if you want to strengthen your hair and bring some shine to it.  Will I buy this again? : YES! Available Here

3. L’oreal Professional Paris Liss Unlimited Evening Primrose Oil

This product retails for INR 600. Just like the moroccon oil, I use this primrose oil as a hair serum. I have been using this over ans over again  for years since I feel that this serum is the best one in the market. It is pricey but luckily a few drops go a long way! This is ideal for managing thick and frizzy hair. I apply this serum right before blow drying my hair since this oil adds an extra film on my hair protecting it from heat damage. If you have unmangable hair that is really tough to detanlge, simply apply 3-4 drops in the palm of your hands and run it through the lengths of your hair. Brushing or combing your hair thereafter would be much, much easier. Will I buy this again? : YES! Available here

4. Za Fresh Foamy Cleanser

This is my favorite cleanser! I had heard a lot about Za so managed to get my hands on the facial cleanser last year from NewU. From day 1 of me trying it, I was absolutely in love. Just after one use, you can tell such a big difference. The clogged up pores clear out, makeup gets removed and my face feels squeaky clean and moistruized. Once I ran out of my first tube, I tried to find the second one everywhere but just couldn’t get hold of it in Delhi. I don’t know if its discontinued or what happened to this cleanser but it’s so, so good! When I went to Singapore in April, I managed to get hold of it and stupidly only bought one tube 🙁 Will I buy this again? YES! about 10000 bottles since it’s so hard to find.

5. Nivea Body Lotion Express Hyderation

I have been using Nivea products since I was a kid and you know you just cannot go wrong with them. As winter was approaching an end, I was looking for a body lotion that would do the job of moisturizing without being as heavy and sticky as a body butter. Lucky for me, I found this Nivea body lotion and  it does the job. It’s super thin and light on the skin and doesn’t feel cakey or sticky. Will I buy this again: Yes! However, I know Nivea has a lot of other body lotions too so I may want to check those out before running back to this one. Available here

6. Soap & Glory Products

Foam Call Body Wash,  The Breakfast Scrub, The Righteous Butter,  Sugar Crush Body Buttercream

Over the past few months I tried out 4 soap and glory products and so rather than talking about each of them at length, I thought I’d just give you so information on them, all together. To begin with, they are all beyond amazing!Foam Call is a body wash that does it job really well along with having one of the most pleasant scents possible (just like all other Soap and Glory products). The bigger plus about this product is that it actually does foam up to a huge extent and lathers really well on the skin! If you’re not a fan of exfoliators, this creamy body wash will be perfect for you. The Breakfast Scrub is hands down one of the most popular products by Soap and Glory since it legitimately smells of breakfast. If you don’t feel like tasting your the product after applying it, you can change my name! (sounds super gross but it just smells too good to be true). A little goes a long way and it works well when used in combination with the Foam Call Body wash. The Righteous Butter and Sugar Crush Body Buttercream are both good at moisturizing but what tells them apart significantly is their scent. The former has a very strong perfume like scent so if you want to a body butter when the fragrance lingers all day, this is just the product for you! It’s really good for calming dry patches and smoothening the skin! The Sugar Crush butter cream is my favorite! It has a sweet scent with a sour hint from the lime and I love it! Even though it’s a buttercream, it applies on the skin really well and vanishes in no time. So, it doesn’t end up feeling as heavy a s body butter. All products are available in Sephora.

7. Olay Age Defying Body Lotion with Vitamin E

I’ve been a fan of Olay products for many years now ever since my mom started using their products. Even though I am 24 and don’t really need age defying products, I decided to try this lotion out since I do have dry skin. The formula contains vitamin E to help ease dryness and protect your skin This product also helps to keep the skin soft all the day. Ofcourse, with a product like this, the benefits take some time to show up it’s really worth the investment if you want to younger looking smoothe skin. I  did not buy this product from India, however it is available on Amazon (though very expensive since it’s imported).

8. Victoria’s Secret Drenched in PINK Warm and Cosy body lotion

I will be honest about this one! I have had this body lotion for a really, really long but just took so long to use it up. I have no complaints from it but on the other hand, it’s not something to die for. This lotion is definitely for winter since it does have a warmth to it (scent). This creamy body lotion from Victoria’s Secret PINK collection creates an instant moisture infusion with aloe, oat and grapeseed extracts and a healthy combo of vitamins E and C. It’s a good product to try out if you have normal skin and are looking for a daily body lotion with a girly scent. If you want to check out some Victoria’s Secret products in India, you can go ahead to Nykaa.comIMG_0988

9. Tresemme Platinum Straight Shampoo & 10. Tresemme Split Remedy Conditioner

I have been using Tresemme products for a really long time and I am obsessed with them! The Platinum Strength Shampoo is really good if you have brittle thin hair that breaks really easily. The Split remedy conditioner works really well hand in hand with the shampoo since not only does it help with smoothening the hair, but also get rid of split ends over a period of time. The shampoo lathers up really well and you do notice a huge difference after using it consistently. The conditioner on the other hand also does it’s job really well and it’s worth buying if you have frizzy hair that’s heavily damaged.

10. Batiste Dry Shampoo

Batiste Dry Shampoo is the best thing that can happen to anyone with oily hair. If you don’t like washing your hair every day this dry shampoo with solve all your problems. Not only does this product completely soak up the oil from the hair and look like its totally clean, it also adds some lovely texture which makes it really easy for styling the hair. The Batiste dry shampoo (The original version), does leave a little white residue (like a powder) in your hair that can be noticeable if you have black hair. In such a situation, the key is to massage the dry shampoo into the scalp thoroughly and I promise it will disappear. It’s those few extra seconds that are needed to make sure that the product is soaked into the scalp. I have stalked up 4 more bottles of this product and is definitely something I cannot live without! I don’t think it’s available in India, but if you have friends or family going to UK, you can get this from Boots or SuperDrug.

11. Peace Love and Juicy Courture Body Creame

Just like the Victorias Secret Body Lotion, this body cream by Juicy Couture is nice to use but easy to live without. It has a very nice scent, almost identical to Juicy Couture perfumes and for that reasons, it feels like you’re applying a liquid moisturizing perfume to your skin. However, having said that, it is a product that you can do without since there are just so many body lotions that you can buy for a better price. This product works as a really lovely gift as it is a little luxurious and has a very feminine touch to it. IMG_0985

12. Seba Med Cleansing Shower Oil

If you have sensitive skin that is also dry, you have to try out the Seba Med Cleansing oil. Unlike the typical soap body washes, this is an oil based body wash that not only cleans the skin thoroughly but also makes it really soft and smooth. It is so effective that you don’t need to use a body lotion after using this! (especially in the summer). The best part about this product is that it’s soap free and hence it will not cause any reactions and will work with all skin types. You will be able to find this product at any good Chemist.IMG_0982

13. Body Shop Satsuma Orange Body butter

The Body Shop is known for it’s body butters and though I have tried so many ranges from them, I have never ever faced any issues with any product. I absolutely love the scent of Orange during the summer since it’s so fresh and citrusy. This Satsuma body butter does have a strong orange scent so you need to keep that in mind before purchasing it. Unlike the other body butters by the Body Shop, this one isnt super thick yet it’s well hydrating without causing any oiliness. You should try out this product if you don’t want to go in for the very thick Cocoa Body butter and are looking for something lighter. The Satsuma essential oil is great for moisturizing the skin and the shea butter is packed with vitamins A, E and F that nourish the skin. Available in Body Shop outlets.

I hope this list of empties gives you some useful information about some products that you may want to try out! If you have queries, you can comment here or comment on my Instagram posts (I always reply!) 🙂
